10 Wrestling Matches You Should Watch To Prepare For WWE Extreme Rules

10. Sting Vs. Nikita Koloff - Russian Chain Match (Great American Bash 1991)

Sting was the most popular guy in WCW at the time of his 1991 Great American Bash match against Nikita Koloff. It wasn't just any match, though. It was a Russian Chain Match similar to what Rusev will have with John Cena at Extreme Rules. They were chained together for the match much like Rusev and Cena will. Koloff was a pretty good heel capable of having good matches. It was an easy story to tell with them since Sting was the prototypical babyface. Anybody that was mean to him or did anything bad then he was going to get booed. The finish for the match came after both guys touched the turnbuckles three times in a row and then Sting hit a Stinger Splash in the corner with Koloff hitting the turnbuckle before Sting did. Does that finish sound familiar? It will be mentioned again in reference to a match from 2004 although it wasn't exactly the same thing. It wasn't a good match. It just didn't have a flow and the crowd interest was mild at best. They really didn't touch the four corners in succession either, so it was as if they forgot about the concept or just did it in a way that made less sense.
