10 Wrestling Moments You Felt Totally Guilty For Laughing At
6. Steve Blackman Tries His Best, Bless Him
Talking wasn't Steve Blackman's strong suit. Blackman possessed a sort of stoic intensity best applied to hardcore matches and bruising backstage angles, which became very evident whenever a microphone was thrust in the general vicinity of his face. Those promos were always worth a laugh because we could tell he was very nervous throughout and we, being ghouls, anticipated the death of his insides.
This specific promo was the most infamous of the lot. Blackman's strategy was admirable, if short-sighted. Knowing he wasn't the best at memorising all of his lines, he decided to go all in on the first. Terry Taylor, who knew or thing or two about humiliation, knew that Blackman had "something he had to say". Blackman, with an almost endearing honesty, took the cue literally. He immediately bellowed, with a stern point of the finger, "You BET your ass there is!" as if not saying those words would have caused him to explode. He then spoke with a degree of uncharacteristic fluency when challenging rival Ken Shamrock to one of the several crackers gimmick matches they wrestled. This made the resultant collapse all the more agonising (read: funny). He was so close to getting it done before stumbling over the words "this thing's gonna end".
Annoyed with himself, he screamed "one way OR ANOTHER" very loudly and abruptly - and farcically.
