10 Wrestling Moves WWE Banned

3. The Tiger Driver

In wrestling, there€™s something called a €˜Sheerdrop€™. A sheerdrop is when you take a move that€™s supposed to end with the victim on their back, or in another €˜safe€™ position, and instead have them land on their head/neck. So technically, the earlier mentioned Backdrop Driver can technically be called a Sheerdrop Belly-to-Back Suplex. So what does this have to with the WWE? Well, it has to do with Rodney Mack. In Mack€™s first match, he performed a Double Underhook Powerbomb, aka a Tiger Driver. The problem was that he used a Sheerdrop, and his opponent landed on his neck/upper shoulders instead of on his back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtjGKnjvMAE (fast forward to 3:43 in this video) Considering the angle of that landing, it should come as no surprise that that particular variation of the Tiger Driver was banned. While Rodney Mack may have kept his opponent safe in that particular instance, from the look of it, further use of that maneuver would pose too high of a risk of injury. However, the WWE took it a step further and banned all variations of the Double Underhook Powerbomb, including the safer variations. While the WWE could simply be being cautious, the non-Sheerdrop versions of the Tiger Bomb (as it€™s also called) are fairly safe, with the recipient landing on their shoulders or back after doing a forward flip. It isn€™t like that move wasn€™t used in the WWE before; Ahmed Johnson used it and called it the €˜Pearl River Plunge€™, and has also been used by wrestlers such as William Regal, Scott Steiner and Chris Jericho. All in all, it would be nice to see the safer version of this move in a WWE ring again; there seems to be a shortage of unique or different moves in Vince€™s company as of late.
