Scott Hall and Kevin Nash are often held up as the justification for many wrestling companies, WWE included, paying wrestlers a 'downside guarantee' - effectively a baseline income which guarantees a minimum amount they will be paid regardless of how they're utilised, with merch sales and bonuses on top.

This myth came about as a result of Hall & Nash's legendary leap to WCW during the Monday Night Wars. Diesel and Razor Ramon became The Outsiders and alongside Hulk Hogan formed the nWo to change the wrestling landscape forever.

Nevertheless, despite commanding ludicrous contracts with Ted Turner's promotion, the duo weren't the catalysts for wrestlers getting guaranteed money. That honour goes to Marc Mero, who went the opposite way to The Outsiders months before they headed down south. After a bidding war between WCW & WWF as Mero's contract with the Atlanta promotion was coming to an end, Vince McMahon offered the former Johnny B. Badd his first-ever guaranteed contract to join his promotion. WCW soon followed suit when touting talent to keep pace with the Fed, and subsequently scored the services of Hall & Nash. The rest is history.
