To say "women haven't always had the best time in WWE" is a bit like saying that "an ice cube wouldn't have the best time on Bondi Beach". For decades, female performers in the company were treated like a sideshow attraction, which is actually a little unfair to sideshow attractions.

Things are far from perfect now, but huge strides have been taken over the last few years to elevate women's wrestling to the level it deserves. Multiple strides were made at Hell in a Cell 2016, where the Raw Women's Championship match between Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks was the first all-female encounter to take place inside the titular structure.

Furthermore, Flair and Banks actually closed this show out, making them the first women ever to headline a WWE PPV. To put this into perspective - less than a month earlier, Charlotte vs Sasha became only the second-ever women's match to headline an episode of Raw.

Women competing in Hell in a Cell and main eventing PPVs is more commonplace these days, but that would not be the case were it not for this match. Hell in a Cell 2016 was a huge risk for WWE - one that, thankfully, paid off.
