10 Wrestling Returns That Must Happen In 2023

5. Cody Rhodes

The Rock WWE SmackDown
WWE

The 'American Nightmare' Cody Rhodes made his triumphant return to WWE at WrestleMania this year, shocking the world by leaving the company he helped create to go back to where he started his career. Amazingly, Cody managed to maintain his momentum under the booking of Vince McMahon before suffering an unfortunate injury that has seen him out of action for most of the year.

That was not before putting on an excellent performance against Seth Rollins at Hell in a Cell, which solidified his position as a main event concern in the company. For this reason, Rhodes should be considered a favourite for the Royal Rumble provided he is fit and ready to compete by late January.

He could also be the man to finally dethrone Roman Reigns as world champion, as there are very few viable options left for the promotion to take in that regard. Cody's decision to leave AEW, only to win the WWE title at WrestleMania a year later would make for one of the wildest modern-day changes in an industry that is always wildly fluctuating.
