SummerSlam 1997 was as important a show for the Hart Foundation in kayfabe as it was for WWE in the punishing real world.

The company had finally found its voice creatively either side of the remarkable and industry-shaping Bret Hart/Stone Cold Steve Austin clash at WrestleMania 13, to the point where both had become the best in the world at what they did now by the time the summer supershow came along.

Amidst a host of other stipulations for the matches featuring Brian Pillman, Owen Hart and 'The Hitman' himself, Davey Boy Smith challenged Ken Shamrock to the most demeaning of stipulations following their hostilities spilling over from the prior month's Canadian Stampede tag match. 'Loser Eats Dog Food' had consigned to its grim Memphis past (before WWE revisited it with Roman Reigns and King Corbin in 2020...) before the British Bulldog put his European Title up for grabs against 'The World's Most Dangerous Man'.

In the end, neither prestigious Championship nor Pedigree Chum featured. Bulldog rubbed some of the grub in Shamrock's face, earning him a sh*t-kicking that saw the whole thing thrown out. Ken's "snapping" disguised the lack of payoff, but WWE wouldn't bother to mask another stipulation they abandoned from the very same show...
