10 WWE Attitude Era Disasters That Even Jim Ross Couldn’t Get Over
2. Brawl For All
The idea of professional wrestlers actually beating the hell out of each other, with the endings of the matches not predetermined may have started out as a nifty gimmick, but the idea couldn't sustain itself for very long. You can tell that the crowd just got tired of this idea by the time the 6th fight rolled around, which featured Bart Gunn and Dr. Death Steve Williams. The crowds constantly chanted "Bo-ring" in the middle of the fight. We also get a taste for how Lawler and Ross would fare on commentary when they don't know what's going to happen inside the ring. J.R. mostly provides real background on the two guys and reminds viewers what the complex scoring structure is. (He and Lawler spend most of the Gunn - Dr. Death fight talking about what constitutes a takedown. "I don't think that's a takedown. That's a takedown.") https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nFnQT2mlgY He tries to add excitement to the images of two professional athletes looking like total amateurs, but sadly, even the great J.R. couldn't make this feel very important.
"Third round...I think this is gonna be it right here. Somebody...win or lose right here."
But in the end, nobody won. We all lost in Brawl For All.
