As a post-Hogan babyface who doled out pink sunglasses and considered himself a hero of the people, Bret Hart was hardly one of wrestling's best talkers. Promos weren't his strength; technical wonders inside the ring were. That started to change when he told residents of Pittsburgh they'd be first choice if the US got an enema.

Oh my.

The beauty of Bret's slow-burn heel turn against the fans who had accepted him as one of their own came in the fact a proud Canadian believed he was right. The same folks jilted by his comments were the ones who had rejected him in favour of anti-hero rebellion from Steve Austin and the juvenile 'Attitude' of D-Generation X that was coming to the fore.

Bret, staunch in his traditional values, couldn't represent those who turned their backs on him to cheer renegades that went against everything he believed in. So, the babyface hero of old gave way and said he'd only stand for fans outside the United States.
