Owens joining the Authority ranks makes sense for several reasons. Firstly, his connection with Triple H behind the scenes isn't exactly a secret. Almost as soon as he arrived in the company and started his developmental deal, HHH was already singing (or rather tweeting) his praises. The two have often talked about their admiration for the other, so it wouldn't exactly be hard to translate this little backstage love-in onto our TV screens. Think about everything that Triple H offered Roman Reigns in his promo on the first Raw of the year; He offered him security for himself and his family. While Reigns took the high road and refused to take the hand out, Owens would've snapped his hand off immediately without hesitation, securing more championship opportunities than he could ever hope for. Owens has repeatedly stated his character's motivation; He's a prize fighter who wants to win Championships and make money for his family, which is more important to him than anything else. Joining the Authority provides him with the perfect opportunity to do just that. The one factor going against him in this potential storyline scenario is probably his size. While Triple H is his biggest cheerleader backstage, Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn reportedly think his weight is an issue and that he just doesn't have the right look for a top guy. Then again, you could further play this into a storyline. HHH tells him he needs to change his image if he's going to be looked after as their top guy, so he loses the facial fuzz, gets brand new custom made wrestling gear, wears suits, arrives to the arena in limousines, you get the idea. If they can get him to lose some timber, even better (not that it's an issue for us here at What Culture). While Owens joining the Authority at some point seems like a very plausible scenario, joining them as their top acquisition is the only thing that would make it worthwhile. If he joins as just another lackey, the move wouldn't mean nearly as much or be nearly as effective. Still, he'd have plenty to offer in the role, and who knows; Maybe Triple has already considered this very scenario, so high is his stock in him. Like many ideas in this column, it's not an idea that exactly takes long to come up with. You just hope that the company has the foresight to actually follow through on at least one of these scenarios. Let's hope for his sake they do...
