Edge & Christian, The Dudley Boyz and The Hardyz revolutionised tag-team wrestling in the early 2000s by continually raising the bar and raising the stakes in an ever-escalating series of dangerous and daring matches. WrestleMania 2000's Triangle Ladder Match paved the way for the Tables, Ladders and Chairs at SummerSlam, but it was the following year's TLC at WrestleMania X-Seven where the three teams perfected the formula.

All three teams have spoken at length about how they felt they needed to push the bar every single night, just to keep up with the likes of The Rock, Stone Cold and Triple H. While all six men would feel the effects of these matches throughout their careers, Edge's injuries to his neck would be a persistent problem, causing him to miss over a year of action in 2003, and he's talked in the past about problems with losing sensation in his arms due the neck injuries he suffered in TLC matches and beyond.

When the news came through that Edge had cervical spinal stenosis, Vince McMahon made the decision for him that his career was over immediately following his WrestleMania match against Alberto Del Rio. The next night, Edge shocked the world with a tearful speech that no-one expected, and transitioned from superstar to legend.
