10 WWE Champions That Didn’t Fit Vince McMahon’s Mold
5. Dolph Ziggler
Former
WWE writer Kevin Eck recently revealed how Dolph Ziggler became World Heavyweight
Champion in 2013 - despite McMahon’s reluctance.
Eck
said that McMahon and Triple H were critical of Ziggler, arguing that he didn’t
take direction well, delivered poor promos and was too obsessed with trying to
be the next Shawn Michaels. Patterson, though, was a huge Ziggler supporter and
vouched for him to cash in his Money In The Bank briefcase at WrestleMania 29.
McMahon
vetoed Patterson’s suggestion, saving the title win for the next night on Raw.
Eck said the decision wasn’t indicative of newfound support in Ziggler – McMahon
simply wanted a surprise moment for the night after WrestleMania
“We
are not pushing Dolph,” McMahon reiterated. It didn’t matter either way because
Ziggler suffered a concussion shortly after winning the title, permanently derailing
his momentum.
