10 WWE Clichés That Need To Die

8. Contract Signings

A few years back, contract signings were usually a good way of hyping up a big upcoming match. They happen far too often these days however, something which possibly wouldn't be so bad if they didn't always end up concluding in pretty much the exact same way! That of course is in some kind of fight. Nine times out of ten, someone goes through the table, and even if they don't...a contract signing always ends up in a physical showdown. It's boring, and a lazy storytelling device used to find an excuse to get them in the ring together. Contract signings are also totally unnecessary when you REALLY spend some time thinking about them. Does every match require a contract? How many production trucks are filled to the rafters with Usos vs. Goldust and Stardust contracts if that's the case?! Sure, that's over-thinking it, but it does highlight how silly these things are when it comes down to it. In the latest episode of NXT, the WWE's best authority figure (William Regal) showed how a contract signing should be done as Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens took part in a fight free exchange which was a million times better than any of the recent ones we've seen on Raw! The crowd's reaction when Regal said that this was one signing which wouldn't end in violence was priceless, and another example of why NXT is such a must-watch show.
