10 WWE Creative Secrets The Writers DON’T Want You To Know

2. They Get No Respect Publicly, Either

At this point, it's probably more difficult to find a story about a wrestler putting over a writer in public.

Before WWE entered a truly disastrous period in the 2010s, during which wrestlers openly mocked a broken system, CM Punk recounted a story on his 2012 'Best In The World' DVD. It was a savage indictment of the WWE process, so much so that it was shocking. Punk said that, when given a script, he tore it up directly in the writer's face, knowing that he could map out the Straight Edge Society arc far better.

What does that say about everything else on the show?

The current WWE creative writer has a simple job: they are told that they exist to put smiles on people's faces. Many, many wrestlers tell the world, frequently, that the writers are incapable of this.

On an old Talk Is Jericho appearance, Big Show said that the writing is so bad that he wants to bash himself in the head "with a hammer" because he all did at a TV taping was wait around all day for an idea that "absolutely sucks".

Before the show was rebooted as the site of WarGames, for the past several years, more than half the roster wondered aloud - on the media rounds! - what the point of Survivor Series was.

Roman Reigns watched the product when he dipped out during the pandemic, telling FOX Sports in 2021 that what he saw in 2020 was "trash". Drew McIntyre sarcastically tweeted "I am a sucker for first time matches" when it was announced that he'd be teaming with Big E against the Dirty Dawgs for a second consecutive week in 2021.

Jon Moxley on Talk Is Jericho revealed that the writing was so awful and puerile and nonsensical that he once had to lean on a piece of production equipment backstage because he was exhausted by it.

That's not all Jon Moxley let slip...
