10 WWE Faces Who Were Actually Total Heels
8. Batista
Batista actually called himself “the worst babyface in the history of wrestling” during a 2014 radio interview. There’s a degree of hyperbole in his statement, but if he’s talking strictly about his comeback a few years ago, Big Dave isn’t far off.
The Animal’s last WWE run was a complete disaster, and bringing him back as a face was the root cause. Batista got a solid pop when he came back on the January 20th, 2014 episode of Raw, but the goodwill didn’t last. One week later, Batista was one of the most despised men in the company.
It didn’t help that many fans had taken on the idea that Batista had only returned to take advantage of his Guardians of the Galaxy hype, but Batista’s return coincided with the height of Daniel Bryan’s popularity. Bryan’s omission from the 2014 Royal Rumble combined with Batista’s victory to create a cacophony of jeers, and babyface Batista was done for.
The former Evolution member entered a program with Alberto Del Rio, but he just couldn’t turn the crowd reactions around. Fans had had enough of him, and his Hollywood flexing wasn’t doing anything to win them over either. WWE fortunately saw the light and turned him heel ahead of WrestleMania a few weeks later, but there was absolutely nothing likeable about Dave’s final run in the first place.
