10 WWE Finishers That Were Quickly Dropped

9. Dean Ambrose - Dirty Deeds (Headlock Driver)

Jon Moxley and his double-underhook DDT have become an iconic duo. The Death Rider has been an absolute star since shedding his Dean Ambrose skin, winning a host of big matches and titles after hitting what has become known as the Paradigm Shift, a move that was called Dirty Deeds during his WWE tenure. That set in motion a time that established the move as Moxley's finish. Well, Ambrose's, but you get the point.

Before all that, Ambrose used a headlock driver as a finishing move, the sort of blow that always felt like create-a-move gone too far. It sounds fine, in theory; grab your opponent by the head and drive that aforementioned bonce into the mat. Do that in the street and you're going to be in some serious legal bother.

In practice, the move was clunky and awkward, something of a surprise considering the perceived simplicity of it all. Some ideas just don't work, and the headlock driver is one of them. Dirty Deeds was quickly morphed into the double-underhook DDT we know and love today, leaving this misstep in the past.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
