World Wrestling Entertainment is a mix of sports and entertainment. Vince McMahon will tell you that. What WWE doesn't always tell the audience is that some of the characters that they have created were comedic characters that are considered jokes. The reason WWE loves the term "sports entertainment" is because they want to push the idea that it's all about having fun for the whole family. They are not putting on 20 minute matches every show because they want to mix promos, backstage segments and plenty of comedy too. In today's WWE, there are several of characters that have been created with the idea that they are not there to contend for titles or to have really long matches that we're going to remember for years to come. Their roles are to entertain by being funny. They might be aimed towards kids too, which is what WWE's PG era is all about. The history of wrestling has seen a lot of colorful characters. Some of them were tremendous all around performers that were booked to be major stars. Others were simply there as filler. It is WWE's way of giving the fans something different. Think about it this way. If every wrestler was the same, it would get pretty boring. It's important to change things up once in a while, so that's why WWE mixes in these joke characters with the others.
