10 WWE Gimmicks That Pushed The PG Era To Its Limits

3. Cryme Tyme (Gangbangers)

At least Colter and Swagger weren't stealing Lita's panties and trying to sell them off to the highest bidder live on pay-per-view.

That was Cryme Tyme's gig. JTG and Shad Gaspard were akin to characters ripped right out of Rockstar's GTA: San Andreas, and they proudly bragged about all the "swag" they'd stolen from other roster members. In other words, Cryme Tyme were stereotypical black gangbangers who revelled in breaking the law.

Such cliched antics may have been fine when the team debuted in 2006 (except, well, they weren't), but they continued to act like gangsters well after the July 2008 cut off point for that kind of Attitude. In an era now obsessed with appeasing corporate sponsors, it was amazing to see WWE continue on with characters who were, for all intents and purposes, supposed to be hood rats.

Although Cryme Tyme did become less about gang and gun culture before splitting in 2010, it's still true that they were a controversial hangover act from one era into the next. "We're bringing the hood to you" indeed.
