10 WWE Innovations That Nobody Wanted

3. Crown Jewel Championship

The Crown Jewel Championship has been introduced in a ploy to make the events in Saudi Arabia have more meaning.

Let's face it: the belt feels like a token gesture rather than a meaningful addition to WWE’s roster of titles. Unlike other championships with rich histories and significant stakes, the Crown Jewel Championship is only going to be defended once a year. Remember the Greatest Royal Rumble title? Exactly.

The whole thing opens up a load of questions that aren't even that interesting. It's just another thing that exists.

Does a wrestler have to keep their world title for a whole year to defend it? How else would they be in the match again a year later? Are they expected to carry it even if they lose their world title?

The biggest question should be: why are we supposed to care? The fact that WWE keeps bragging about how much the belt is worth, despite releasing wrestlers every year due to budgeting issues, isn't a good look for the company either.

Everybody will tune in for the show, see this belt handed to the winner, then assume it won't be seen on TV again. Life goes on.

When I'm not trying my hardest to visit all 50 U.S. states, I'm listening to music from the 80s, watching TV from the 90s, and reminiscing about growing up in the 00s. I'm currently living in Melbourne, Australia so WWE premium live events are on Sunday afternoons for me; the absolute dream.
