10 WWE Jobbers Who Became World Champion
2. Jon Moxley
That might be one of the best side-by-side images ever. Just saying. It shows WWE Champion and top star Dean Ambrose almost staring over in disbelief at his younger, pink haired self on the left. Being fair, Jon Moxley on the left was only trying to grab some attention and hopefully snare himself a contract with the top company in the land when appearing on smaller shows like Velocity and Heat between 2006-2007.
WWE didn't take him on, but they'd proceed to offer Mox a full-time developmental deal in 2011. By 2012, Ambrose was appearing alongside Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns as The Shield on main roster shows. Better yet, they were kicking doors in as one of the most impactful stables to ever grace WWE programming. Life was good, and this was a far cry from teaming with Dick Rick in handicap losses to Big Show, losing to Val Venis in a few short minutes or appearing as one of The Undertaker's druids.
The Shield cemented Deano as someone fans should pay attention to. Post-faction split in 2014, he clicked as a rebellious singles babyface who had an air of Brian Pillman's old 'Loose Cannon' character about him. In 2016, the promotion's top brass decided to try Ambrose on as top champion - he won the belt by cashing in the briefcase at Money In The Bank that June.
Jarring interviews with a puzzled Steve Austin followed, and it became clear that Ambrose was somebody who fit the phrase: 'Marches to the beat of his own drum'. He was arguably never going to be a neat fit as WWE's main champion for too long, but Mox did go from jobber to WWE Champ then AEW lightning rod.
That's where he is now. Jon is the current AEW World Champion at time of writing.
