Shane Douglas is primarily known for two things: throwing the NWA World title onto the canvas, and holding onto the ECW World title when he was injured for longer than Lou Thesz held the NWA title when he was active.
Douglas talked such a fantastic game as the belief-drenched 'Franchise' that he remained a big deal in ECW after peaking as an in-ring talent in 1994 (when he was seriously good) and bombing in the WWF (where he was absolutely rubbish). Douglas blamed terrible creative and the political dark arts of the Kliq, which, fair, but he was horrendous all the same. Injuries obviously piled up when he returned to ECW, and by the time he got his second big move, to WCW, it wasn't a big move. WCW was finished, as was Douglas. His matches were atrocious.
Astonishingly, then, in July of this year, he worked a total of seven times - which is a lot more than, what, around 80% of the AEW and WWE women's divisions?
In the most petty and meaningless of last words, Shane Douglas can at least say that he outlasted D*ck Flair, who worked his final date in July 2022.
