10 WWE Matches Improved By Last Minutes Changes

9. Shinsuke Nakamura Vs John Cena - SmackDown 2017

Two wrestling icons from opposite sides of the globe, John Cena and Shinsuke Nakamura have only wrestled each other once in their storied careers so far.

This match took place on the 1 August 2017 episode of SmackDown and was for the opportunity to face WWE Champion Jinder Mahal at SummerSlam.

It ended with The King of Strong Style getting a clean win over Big Match John, but not before nearly breaking Cena's neck with a botched suplex.

After the match, Baron Corbin ran in to ruin Nakamura's day. The Lone Wolf attacked Naks with his Money in the Bank briefcase, which prompted Cena to chase him off. What a nice guy.

However, Cena was nearly doing this a couple of minutes earlier, as the original plans for the match would have seen Corbin attack Nakamura whilst the match was still happening.

This would have led to Shinsuke winning via DQ, which meant he still would have faced Mahal at SummerSlam, but giving the Japanese star a win over Cena really helped solidify him as a top contender, and this would have been lost had Corbin's attack been brought forward.
