10 WWE Matches John Cena Absolutely MUST Have In 2025

Throughout his fulltime run in WWE, John Cena often referred to himself as the “Face that Runs the Place.” It was a simple, evocative moniker that left no doubt as to Cena’s standing within the company, regardless of whether he was holding a title.

Since Cena stepped back in his role, Roman Reigns assumed the mantle by virtue of his 1,316-day world title reign. But he also has significantly reduced his WWE footprint during the past couple years, ceding the role to Cody Rhodes.

Upon returning to WWE, Rhodes has become everything to the company that Cena was: an ever-present face, a stellar spokesman and ambassador for WWE, attending all the press junkets and glad-handing events, and doing all of it with a smile. For that reason alone, a match between Rhodes and Cena feels like it must happen in 2025.

And given Cody’s unofficial title as WWE’s mascot incarnate, a match between the two does not necessarily need to be contested for a championship. It certainly wouldn’t hurt if the Undisputed WWE Championship is on the line – perhaps at WrestleMania 41 – but this match could be pushed off until the summer or even fall if a title isn’t part of the mix.

Bottom line: If WWE doesn’t book this one-on-one bout, they better have a really good reason.
