10 WWE Matches That Completely Fell Short Of Expectations

7. Goldust Vs. Stardust (Fastlane 2015)

When a returning Goldust clashed with his half-brother, Cody Rhodes, at the 2013 Royal Rumble, fans were firmly into the idea of this sibling rivalry amounting to something.

At first, nothing came of it, but when Goldust came back – permanently this time – nine months down the line, a successful run as a tag team suggested the possibility of the feud being revived once their time as partners was over.

Eventually, that’s exactly what happened, but by then it was far too late. Rather than striking while the iron was hot, in the spring of 2013 or even 2014, the company waited until the following year to pull the trigger on this one. By then, no one was really interested in the story anymore. The initial momentum from Goldust’s two returns had been lost, while Rhodes was now portraying the Stardust gimmick, which simply wasn’t as popular.

A feud that had twice piqued fan interest and had all that Rhodes Family history behind it, ultimately became an afterthought on a forgettable B-show PPV. A shame, when you think back to what this could've been in 2013 or ’14.
