Roman Reigns vs... El Grande Americano?

After this week's Raw closed with Roman Reigns chatting to AAA General Manager Rey Mysterio, it looks like a major match could be on the horizon for WWE's OTC.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez said that Roman could well be set to face El Grande Americano at the September 14th edition of Raw, which takes place at Mexico City's Arena CDMX. However, Alvarez stressed that this is not set in stone as of now.

This comes on the back of WWE announcing yesterday that they'll be holding a tournament to determine who'll face Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on that particular Raw episode. As of now, no participants have been announced for that tourney.

Interestingly, El Grande Americano is set to challenge Dominik Mysterio for the AAA Mega Championship at Triplemania 34 Night 2 on Sunday, September 13th - the night before Roman's Mexico City Raw appearance.

Should we indeed get El Grande Americano vs. Roman Reigns, it will be the first time ever that the two have squared off, and it would be another indicator of how El Grande's stock has risen over the past year or so. Of course, this comes hot on the heels of a bona fide Match of the Year contender, as El Grande defeated the Original El Grande Americano in a Mask vs. Mask bout at Noche de Los Grandes back in May, with Original El Grande Americano revealed to be none other than Chad Gable. Since losing his mask, Gable has also gone on his own tear, culminating in winning the WWE Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam last weekend.
