10 WWE Matches That Completely Fell Short Of Expectations

2. Goldberg Vs. Brock Lesnar (WrestleMania XX)

Though they had the Toronto crowd well-and-truly on their side at Survivor Series 2016, things weren’t quite so rosy for Goldberg and Brock Lesnar in Madison Square Garden at WrestleMania XX.

The first-ever meeting between these two freaks of nature should have been one for the ages but instead, all that interest was essentially killed by real-life goings on outside of the ring.

With both guys coming to the end of their contracts, WrestleMania XX was to be last of Goldberg’s and Lesnar’s matches in WWE, and this wasn’t a particularly well-kept secret. With fans inside MSG aware that the pair were on their way out, they responded by completely turning on the match.

In the two-and-a-half, long minutes before they even locked up, the pair’s staredown was overshadowed by a chorus of boos and “you sold out” chants. And even when they did get into it, the big power spots were greeted by even more boos. You can't even say that people didn’t care – they cared alright, they just cared more about voicing their displeasure than anything else.

In hindsight, and as Survivor Series proved, WrestleMania XX was just the wrong time and place for this particular match-up.
