10 WWE Matches That Completely Fell Short Of Expectations

3. Shawn Michaels Vs. Mr Perfect (SummerSlam 1993)

Two-and-a-half years after their only previous meeting, Shawn Michaels faced Mr Perfect for the Intercontinental title at SummerSlam 1993. Billed as a match to determine the greatest IC Champion of all time, you could argue that neither man was worthy of the claim coming out of this one.

Viewed as your average, one-on-one match, it wasn’t particularly poor, it just wasn’t as good as you might have expected considering the talents of the two guys involved. Perhaps they were having an off-night, but the two just seemed to lack that chemistry and, for whatever reason, things didn’t quite click.

In short; we were promised a classic but didn’t get it.

Plus, after the match had denied Perfect the chance to become the first-ever three-time Intercontinental champion, Michaels went on to vacate the belt anyway the very next month. The storyline reason was for not defending his title for 30 days. In reality, he’d tested positive for steroids.

Factor in the count-out finish and all-in-all, the whole thing was something of an anti-climax.
