10 WWE Matches That Outshone The Royal Rumble

4. Bret Hart vs. Razor Ramon (1993)

Compared to what WWE fans were accustomed to as title matches just a few short years before this one, it's remarkable to look back and see the sweeping changes the company were making post-Hulkamania. A more athletic, rugged style was favoured, especially when Bret Hart was the champion. Scott Hall was making a great name for himself as Razor Ramon, and later in 1993 fans would even turn him babyface, such were the strength of his performances. At the '93 Royal Rumble, Razor would battle Hart for the WWF Title, in a match which stands tall as one of this writer's most-cherished of all time. It's intriguing to think that Vince McMahon could look at bouts like this one and not realise immediately that it was the future of the promotion, and exactly what his hardcore audience wanted to see. Another Hulk Hogan was the remedy, or so Vince thought, but the great WWE marketing machine couldn't make Lex Luger the promotion's top star, and like it or not, more wrestling-orientated affairs were the way forward.
