10 WWE NXT Flops Who Should Have Been Huge

5. Andrade Almas

There’s a chance that Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas could still turn his ailing WWE career around, but this seems extremely unlikely at this point. Unfortunately, the former CMLL standout hasn’t found his niche in NXT, and while his heel turn has coincided with a big improvement in his work, it hasn’t brought him a stronger push.

WWE flubbed their lines by bringing the former La Sombra in as a babyface and immediately booking him against Tye Dillinger, whose popularity was going through the roof. This made it incredibly difficult to cheer for Almas, and he was given little opportunity to further his bland character over the coming months, before eventually snapping on Cedric Alexander and reverting to a watered down version of the heel persona that made him famous in the first place.

Almas’ current gimmick is that he’s too focused on his life outside the ring to win consistently, and it has left him dead in the water. Once one of Mexico’s most exciting high flyers, ‘Cien’ has become a non-entity, and each new NXT debutant seems to surge past him in the pecking order, with Roderick Strong and Aleister Black the latest examples. A hyped signing at the time, he now looks consigned to the scrapheap.
