Stone Cold's betrayal of the WWF may have been surprising during July's Invasion pay-per-view, but it was far from the most stunning moment written for him during 2001. That would have to be his alignment with Mr. McMahon - even though both had been at loggerheads for the past three years.

In his home state, the 'Texas Rattlesnake' linked up with Vince to beat the hell out of The Rock and secure his slot as WWF Champion once more. Fans inside the huge Houston Astrodome didn't quite know whether to cheer or boo; they knew they were supposed to jeer a heel turn like this, it was still difficult for anyone to lambast their hometown hero.

Seeing Austin shake hands with previous mortal enemy McMahon in the middle of the ring at WrestleMania felt historic and huge, and this remains one of the most mind-blowing moments in WWE pay-per-view history to date.

The heel run didn't work out for Austin (again, people just didn't want to boo him), but it was ballsy to even try a union with McMahon in the first place.
