10 WWE PPVs Fans Thought Would Totally Suck (But Didn’t)
3. Vengeance 2003
2003 was a strange time to be a WWE fan.
The aforementioned post-WrestleMania malaise crept its way into summer that year; the Raw-only Bad Blood show was guff in June, and few were clicking their heels at the thought of a SmackDown exclusive Vengeance card come July. WWE were shooting themselves in the foot by limiting monthly specials to one brand, after all.
Much as it had done one year earlier however, Vengeance actually came out well. Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit put on a clinic for the United States Title in the opener, and there's an underrated Tag Title match pitting Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin against Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio to seek out here too.
Further up the card, The Undertaker worked rising star John Cena, Vince McMahon pulled a marvel out of his arse against one-legged novelty act Zach Gowen and the main event Triple Threat match between Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar and Big Show (whilst not as good as 2002's) was all-action.
