10 WWE PPVs That Aren’t As Good As You Remember

8. Royal Rumble 1999

What You Remember: Austin vs. McMahon pinning down the titular Rumble, a super-violent 'I Quit' war between The Rock and Mankind, and heaps more of that winning 'Attitude' formula. The 1999 Rumble also starred Chyna as the first woman in history to enter the 30-person fray.

Reality: Everyone knew Austin vs. McMahon would dominate the Rumble; that wasn't a big problem due to the feud's electric feel, but it did stomp on the notion that "anyone can win". Outside of those two (and maybe a few credible stars like Triple H and Kane), there was a shocking lack of star power in the match.

The undercard, WWF Title bruiser aside, wasn't exactly a thrill ride either.

Big Boss Man vs. Road Dogg, Ken Shamrock vs. Billy Gunn, X-Pac vs. Gangrel and Sable vs. Luna Vachon all felt more Sunday Night Heat than 'Road To WrestleMania' pay-per-view quality. If you do revisit this one, skip everything but the 'I Quit' and final few minutes of the Rumble.
