10 WWE PPVs Which Drew Lower-Than-Expected Buyrates (And Why)

9. WrestleMania XXVI - 885,000 Buys

Shawn Michaels Triple H 2009

At WrestleMania 25, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker delivered a match that most WWE fans consider one of the greatest bouts of all time. The half-hour classic saved an otherwise awful show, and when Shawn Michaels challenged Undertaker to a rematch at the end of 2009, fans were ecstatic. This time, the stakes would be even higher - Michaels was putting his career on the line against Undertaker's streak.

The bout was just as good as the first, and Michaels lost, bringing his career to a close. Shockingly, though, the show drew almost 100,000 fewer buys than WrestleMania 25, making it the lowest-bought 'Mania since 2003.

The culprit for the low buyrate was UFC, which was doing monster business in 2010. The day before WrestleMania, UFC 111 aired, featuring a Welterweight Title bout between Georges St-Pierre and Dan Hardy, as well as Shane Carwin - who was pegged as a man who could beat Heavyweight Champ Brock Lesnar - beating Frank Mir. That show drew 770,000 buys on its own, and many combat sports fans decided not to shell out money for both events.
