10 WWE Questions You Most Want Answered (April 25)
8. Finishing Moves Losing Appeal?
From @rocco_619: Why do they bother having 'finishing moves' anymore? It used to be a shock if someone kicked out - now it's 3 to 4 times in a big match.
That's a very good question that is tough to answer, but finishers are definitely needed in wrestling. They have been a part of the business forever and you really can't just take them away because fans are so used to them. They usually generate a reaction (if the wrestler is over) and often times end a match. The reason that finishers get kicked out more often in the last 15 years is because WWE figured out when you do that the match typically gets better and can go on for longer too. It's not the Hulk Hogan era where nobody kicked out of the leg drop. Guys do it all the time in order to build up the anticipation for the end of the match. Eliminating finishers would hurt matches. Viewers wouldn't know when a match is about to end or when to get excited for sequences. That's why everybody has signature moves as well as finishers that are easily recognizable. Maybe WWE should consider having less people kick out of finishers, but they really can't eliminate finishing moves all together. They are a part of pro wrestling, after all.
