From @andyclemo: Has any WWE wrestler had a better year in terms of quantity of great matches as Cena has so far? Unbelievable run so far.
It's tough to answer, but there's definitely a case that could be made for Cena's work this year because it has been phenomenal. He's been given the opportunity that few wrestlers have ever had since he's had so many televised matches get 12+ minutes or more. Imagine if Shawn Michaels or Kurt Angle got that in their primes? No offense to Cena, but he's not at their level. As good as Cena's matches have been, other than the Owens angle at the start it hasn't been that compelling in terms of storylines. The Rusev feud dragged on for too long while producing matches that were just okay, but not great. When I think of best years of wrestlers, Steve Austin in 1997 and 2001 comes to mind. Triple H in 2000 definitely is near the top. Kurt Angle pretty much any year from 2001-2005 is up there. Shawn Michaels from 2003-2005 was incredible - he was all the time really. Bret Hart in 1993 produced so many classics. Chris Jericho in 2008 is another one that is up there as well. You could even go back to Randy Savage in the late 1980s although obviously a lot less them of them were televised. Cena works hard and has improved, so he deserves a lot of credit. I'm not a hater by any means. All I'm saying is he benefits a lot from Raw being three hours because there's more time on the show to give him those longer matches with the quality opponents that other wrestlers from 10-15 years ago may not have had. There's been a lot of great matches on WWE TV this year. Cena's been a part of so many of them and at this point would be my WWE wrestler of the year.
