2. Is It Possible For An 'Internet Darling' To Become WWE Champion In 2016?
One of the most pertinent questions of the week comes from @tailbae, who wonders if an internet darling - someone in the Daniel Bryan or CM Punk mould - can become WWE World Heavyweight Champion in 2016. Initially the answer seems to be yes; Punk and Bryan broke the glass ceiling in 2011 and 2014 respectively, and can probably be credited for a lot of changes going on within WWE today (ie. NXT, and the new direction the company has taken in recruiting top indie talent). On the other hand, I can't help but think that 2016 will be the year of the heavyweights. Roman Reigns is the current champ, Lesnar will surely be on the scene come WrestleMania, and we've still got John Cena's record-equalling 16th reign to think about. It's hard to see where Rollins, Owens, et. al. will be able to get a look in. The internet darlings will definitely rise again, and WWE's recent changes have made that clear, but 2016 could be a frustrating year for the smarkier among us.
