7. Attitude Era Hurt Wrestling In Terms Of Heel Heat?
From @joedSilence: Did the Attitude Era ruin the wrestling business going forward? The lack of true heel heat is almost gone. Where do they go?
That's a great question because there really aren't true heels that generate the kind of heat that Vince McMahon or Triple H got 15 years ago. The heels of today aren't nearly as aggressive or as vicious as they used to be. Look at WWE Champion Seth Rollins, who is a great performer that is being hurt by his inability to win a match without help. A big problem with WWE today is that the heels are not booked strong enough while the faces like John Cena, Randy Orton, Brock Lesnar and others are booked too strong. It's pretty sad that the heels can almost never win clean. When Kevin Owens beat Cena clean at Elimination Chamber it was treated like a big deal because it's so rare. Then when Cena won clean people just shrugged their shoulders and accepted it because they are so used to seeing it. A few years ago when CM Punk and Paul Heyman mocked the heart attack of Jerry Lawler and also mocked the death of Paul Bearer, people were furious. It was pure heel heat that old school wrestling people would love, but in today's wrestling world it's so rare. The times have changed and they probably won't go back to the kind of heel heat that we saw in the Attitude Era when WWE was at its most successful. Blame the PG Era for some of it, but also blame the lack of creativity by WWE as well.
