4. What Is The Worst WrestleMania Main Event Ever?
For me, this is a straight shootout between WrestleManias 8 and 9. There have been some deflating 'Mania endings for sure - 16, 25 and 27 chief among them - but 8 and 9 are about as bad as WrestleMania main events get.
9 is more infamous, for sure. Many fans know the story of Bret Hart being politically outmuscled by Hulk Hogan, resulting in a horribly outdated champion and a rushed, nonsensical ending to the show. Nobody involved in this fiasco came out looking stronger. Yokozuna looked foolish, Bret looked weak, and Hogan looked like an opportunist for defeating an opponent who'd just wrestled.
However, for me, 8 potentially edges it. Hulk Hogan vs. Sid wasn't even for the WWF Championship, and featured perhaps the worst run-in in the history of wrestling. Papa Shango, in one of his first WWF appearances, made a total hash of his interference, missing his cue and arriving late to the ring. This forced Sid to kick out of the iconic Legdrop, and the referee to call for a paper-thin DQ.
Sure, it could be argued that Ultimate Warrior's subsequent run-in was exciting and unexpected, but for me, it was merely another nonsensical layer atop a cake of misjudgement.
