10 WWE Releases That Made Absolutely No Sense

As much as we'd like all of our favourite wrestlers to stay employed, earn a boatload of money and be consistently used well on weekly WWE television, sometimes things just don't work out for a talented performer in Vince McMahon's empire , making their eventual release becomes pretty much inevitable.

However, not every WWE release is as understandable or justifiable as the last. In fact, some sudden departures made absolutely no sense at all and left fans still scratching their heads months after the shocking news abruptly broke.

Again, if a star has broken significant rules, proved to be entirely unreliable or simply doesn't fit into your product in any way, then it probably makes sense to wish them the best in their future endeavours. But when a talent helps bring a cinematic WrestleMania match for the ages to life, adds weight to a depressingly weak division or offers an unrivalled amount of experience, why in the hell would you want to give them their marching orders?

Obviously, many of the recent releases on this list went down during the dreadful Black Wednesday mass exodus earlier this year and WWE justified their exits by stating that these cuts were made to save money during the current global situation. But even with that in mind, it still made very little sense to let go of some of these highly valuable performers just to save a bit of cash in the short term.

When Ethan Carter III originally re-signed with WWE back in January 2018 and joined their developmental NXT brand, most fans assumed the star would quickly climb the ranks and become WWE's latest favourite toy. He had a marketable and McMahon-friendly look, could talk the talk on a microphone and had the physical ability to hold his own against the very best in the ring.

Yet, a tepid main roster debut in early 2019 was soon followed by a deeply disappointing run which saw him spend more time sipping out of a plastic red cup than actually proving he was in the 'Top 1%' as a performer.

However, with a couple of weeks worth of squashes and a few big name scalps under his belt, EC3 could have very quickly gotten over as WWE's next top main event star. It's not like he didn't offer the company any ideas when it came to how they should present him either, with the star revealing recently that he pitched becoming a 'John Cena-ish' face character who was booed for being a dominant star.

This move would have no doubt brought the best out of the smarmy EC3 character and the company would have probably earned a ton of money from the success of the gimmick. But, for whatever reason, WWE decided he wasn't worth keeping on the payroll and happily let the former Impact World Champion go during the Black Wednesday releases in April.
