10 WWE Romances You Totally Don't Remember

7. John Cena & Mickie James

One of several times a real life tryst was played out on screen, Mickie James and John Cena had dated in real life before allusions to their romance were made public through bizarre backstage vignettes.

After weeks of teases that there may be more than just a friendship between the two, the deeds done were confirmed in a cringeworthy meet-cute following a Mickie match on a 2008 edition of Monday Night Raw.

In a fourth-wall smashing segment (Cena literally shouted past it before Mickie ran out of the shot shot in the opposite direction to how John entered), they shared an intimate moment when 'Big Match John' returned last night's knickers. As she blushed off into the distance, he guzzled a bottle of JBL's 'Mamajuana' virility drink they were providing free plugs for at the time.

This was all well and bad, but the terminal patter on-screen didn't foreshadow much happiness in real life. Rumours swirled at the time that Mickie was transferred to SmackDown because of their ugly break-up, contributed to in-part by her ex-boyfriend Ken 'Kenny Dykstra' Doane following his implications that he was still with James when the Cena relationship first began.
