10 WWE Signings That Didn't Live Up To The Hype

6. Scott Steiner

Going in to the last ever episode of WCW Monday Nitro, Scott Steiner was the reigning WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Big Poppa Pump was one of the biggest stars in the company, and the failure of the Invasion storyline is often put down to the fact that none of the big WCW names made the jump to the WWE immediately. Steiner was one such name, and he wouldn't arrive in WWE until one whole year after the story had ended.

Steiner arrived with some juice behind him though, and the signing of a big WCW star was a major moment for the company. Scotty was the subject of a bidding war between Eric Bischoff on RAW and Stephanie McMahon on SmackDown, eventually deciding to work with Bischoff once again on the red brand. He was immediately put into a World Heavyweight Championship program with Triple H, a sign of things to come for The Genetic Freak.

That match at the Royal Rumble was widely derided however, with Steiner practically immobile and only capable of throwing a procession of suplexes. Hold on, big guy with phallic chest tattoo throws constant suplexes? That sounds familiar.

Even so it was quickly clear that Steiner wasn't worth what he was being paid, and he tumbled down the card to feud with Test and Chris Nowinski among others. The 2004 Royal Rumble proved to be his last in the company.
