Upon the Cruiserweight division's original arrival on WWE television in 2001, fans got to know very quickly what made these stars so distinct.

Rey Mysterio, Chavo Guerrero and Ultimo Dragon all graced the weight class in its early days on Vince McMahon's promotion, only for the division to finally reach a dead end in 2007.

That was until the Cruiserweight Classic was announced in 2016.

With rounds taking place on a week to week basis, this tournament felt legit and forced fans to get excited about the impending victor of the whole thing.

Daniel Bryan and Mauro Ranallo even gave us real-sport style rundowns for each competitor before the event took place, adding a layer of authentic backstory to each of the 32 competitors.

The aftermath wasn't much to be desired - with TJ Perkins winning the competition and the re-introduction of the division not hitting the heights of the original tournament - but the incredible matches and style clashes on show surely warranted another version of the concept at some point.

WWE's Mae Young Classic proved to be a hit for two seasons straight, so why not use the extensive array of Cruiserweights already available in the company to build another bracket and give FOX the legitimate sports feel that they are yearning for?
