When Rusev drove into WrestleMania on top of a tank, a star should have been born.
Even if he was booked to lose that match to John Cena, he was still one of the most effective heels in the company at the time. Since then, however, backstage trouble involving his fiancée Lana and an insistence on turning him into a comedy character has seen Rusev go from Bulgarian Brute to Bulgarian Joke.
Which is a damn shame, because if there is one thing WWE is lacking right now it is top-level heels. Instead of messing around with the League of Nations, a dominant Rusev could be attempting to crush Roman Reigns and pinch his World Title.
In fact, if Rusev’s push hadn’t been derailed you can’t help but think he would have been a better monster for Reigns to overcome at WrestleMania. That's a big 'if', of course.
Instead, his career has crumbled, and this new batch of talent will do nothing to help him regain his lost momentum. In Baron Corbin, they’ve found themselves a new big man, and it seems like, for the time being, Rusev shall crush no more.
