The Miz had improved enough by 2009 that he and Morrison would wind up set apart. Morrison turned face and was moved to Smackdown while Miz's elitist arrogance would find immediate use in a feud with John Cena. Sure, Miz got whupped pretty quickly, but at least he got to rip on Cena's acting career.

By this time, Miz had added some firm malice to his promos, giving him an edge that had eluded him in his days as a higher-voiced blowhard. He also whipped himself into the best shape of his career, and was quickly rewarded with a lengthy United States title reign.

About a year and a half after switching brands, The Miz was WWE Champion, a reign that didn't exactly end with a flourish, but was at least a testament to his startling improvement.
