10 WWE Stars Who Got Over After Huge WrestleMania Performances

2. Shawn Michaels - WrestleMania X

Shawn Michaels had been one of the pillars of WWE's midcard for an entire year before WrestleMania X rolled around. A two-time Intercontinental champion, he was one of the company's workhorses, a wrestler leaned heavily on to deliver in key situations.

A late-1993 suspension sidelined him though, leaving the IC title vacant. Enter Razor Ramon, who won the prize and in the process, laid the foundation for a rivalry between him and Michaels over who was the real champion. At the March 1994 Showcase of the Immortals, they would battle in a Ladder match for the gold. Contrary to 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair's assertions that Michaels "wrestled a ladder", Ramon was as responsible for the quality of the match as his opponent. But it was Michaels that stole the show.

From the iconic splash off the ladder to the tremendous bumps he took around the squared circle, selling both Ramon's offense and the shots to the body with the ladder as if he had been shot, Michaels left a lasting impression on both the viewing audience and management.

Coming out of the event, it was clear that the perennial midcard competitor had the skills and abilities to be a legitimate and credible main event star. His showing at WrestleMania X led to him winning two straight Royal Rumbles, competing in two WrestleMania main events and capturing his first WWE Championship.
