10 WWE Stars Who Got Over After Huge WrestleMania Performances

6. Shane McMahon - WrestleMania XV

WWE

Shane McMahon was an unproven commodity as WrestleMania XV arrived in 1999. Though he had become an essential member of The Corporation and an underrated promo, he had not yet wrestled a high-profile match without the support of a tag team partner to do all of the work. That changed at the Showcase of the Immortals when he defended his European Championship against the man he defeated for it in the first place.

One of the marquee matches on the show, Shane's title defense against X-Pac would come to define him as a performer. Either he delivered in the biggest moment of his life or he failed miserably and would be relegated back to the non-wrestling role. That his father had just wrestled a brilliant main event a month earlier against Steve Austin only intensified the pressure facing Shane-O-Mac.

In front of an audience of hardcore Philadelphia wrestling fans, the prodigal son rose to the occasion, working a show-stealing match with his opponent. He bumped around the squared circle, the spoiled and entitled son of a billionaire taking his comeuppance after weeks of tormenting the degenerate. When the time came to get his offense in, he performed masterfully, looking like the outmatched slimy heel lucky enough to get his licks in. He was the perfect villain and the match absolutely benefited from having him in it.

He won following the betrayal of X-Pac by Triple H and celebrated as if he had done it on his own, like he was the sole reason for the unfathomable victory.
