10 WWE Stars Who Only Won Gold Because Of The Brand Split

9. Candice Michelle

For some reason, the brand split led WWE to believe it could sustain two women's divisions, when it had already acquired a damning reputation that it could not promote one. This led to a whole host of wrestlers getting either a Divas or Women's Championship reign that may not have been entirely warranted, and certainly wouldn't have happened if there had only been the one roster.

Jillian Hall had a five-minute run with the title, though it's barely worth a mention. There were also a whole host of flavour of the month champions, and the least deserving from a professional wrestling point of view may very well have been Candice Michelle. Candice won the Women's Championship at Vengeance 2007, and would hold the strap for almost four months before dropping it to Beth Phoenix.

Candice Michelle was the first individual from the WWE Diva Search to win a championship in the company, but if the roster split hadn't been a thing then it is unlikely she would have held gold at any point. She certainly improved between the ropes, but enough to be champion in a division that also included Mickie James, Victoria, and Beth Phoenix? Hardly.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
