10 WWE Stars Who Only Won Gold Because Of The Brand Split

The worst duo to win any of World Wrestling Entertainment's tag team championships? That's another discussion for another day, but even now I'm still a little perplexed as to why Kenzo Suzuki and Renee Dupree were teaming in the first place, let alone defeating Billy Kidman and Paul London to win the tag titles.

Well, the answer of course lies in the brand split. Suzuki and Dupree were floundering as singles performers on SmackDown, another consequence of having two rosters and a poor developmental system, so they were thrown together as a tag team. Upon doing this it became clear that the tag division was thinner than its singles counterpart, and before the eyelid was heading back north to complete the blink these two were winning tag gold.

WWE's tag world was fairly grim in the middle of the 2000s, and supporting one division would have been tough going. Supporting two? An accident waiting to happen.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
