10 WWE Stars Who Were Worthless Intercontinental Champions
10. Marty Jannetty
When Shawn Michaels brought an end to The Rockers by turning on his partner, Marty Jannetty went through a bit of a rough patch. Due to drug and alcohol problems, he was released from WWE on more than one occasion. This kept delaying the chance for Jannetty and Michaels to work a long running feud. Eventually Jannetty sobered up enough to work with Michaels in a program that featured the Intercontinental Championship. On a May 1993 edition of Monday Night Raw, Jannetty managed to beat Michaels and win the gold. This would set the stage for Jannetty to get his big push, and both he and Michaels would become bigger superstars in the months and years to come. Or at least thats what everyone thought. Unfortunately, that didnt happen for poor Marty. He only held the gold for a few weeks before losing it back to Michaels thanks to Big Daddy Cool Diesel interfering during the title match. The truth of the matter was that Jannetty winning the title was Vince McMahons way of punishing Michaels for his poor behavior backstage at the time. Jannetty was never seriously considered to be a worthy IC champion. Afterwards, Jannetty would work a couple other programs with various wrestlers and even win the Tag Titles with the 1-2-3 Kid before losing the belts a week later to The Quebecers. Soon afterwards, Jannetty disappeared from WWE once more. He would show up sporadically throughout the 90s, but he was never quite the same after his IC title reign.
