10 WWE Storylines From 2016 That Will Never Be Resolved

9. The Return Of Cody Rhodes

It's common knowledge that Cody Rhodes didn't like playing the Stardust character. A takeoff on his older brother's "Goldust" persona, Stardust first teamed with, then feuded with the older Rhodes. Unfortunately for Cody, he had difficulty getting over when he wasn't part of the package deal. He spent most of 2015 floundering.

During that time, Cody routinely teased the end of Stardust, though whether it was a storyline or just wishful thinking on his own part is anyone's guess. That continued into 2016, and when he was put into the seven-man Intercontinental Title match at WrestleMania, he said that if he lost, it would mean the end of Stardust. He lost, and though he was absent from TV for a few weeks afterwards, he was eventually back in the face paint.

If Cody Rhodes was going to revert to being Cody Rhodes in WWE, those plans were crushed when he asked for - and was granted - his release from the company. Since August, he's been wrestling a full schedule on the independent scene, with a WWE return anytime soon looking unlikely.
